Prompt Wisely and Prosper: Preparing for AI Coexistence

Writers often evoke movies to describe the threats posed by artificial intelligence. Although AI has been around in many of the products we have used for some time, it is hard not to think of the destruction wrought by the sentient AI Skynet in the Terminator movies. There are the replicants in Blade Runner, hinting at a future where we may not be able to tell the differences between a video of a real person and an AI avatar. If you really want the holy grail solution of optimizing AI in your life, think of a line from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (spoiler alert). In it, a miraculously preserved knight guides Indy as he tries to pick the right goblet from a range of chalices varying in luster, gilt, and glamor. If Indy selects the wrong cup, he will wither away. The knight’s advice? “Choose wisely.” In using AI, it really comes down to asking the chatbot the right question, or to “prompt wisely.”
