The Indicator of a Great Teacher

A childhood friend of mine passed away a few years ago. We worked on the high school yearbook together, but what was for me an extracurricular became for him a lifelong passion for journalism. He majored in it in college and became a sports reporter. After writing for newspapers for a few years, he grew tired of a life working nights and weekends, so he went back to school and got his PhD in journalism and landed a plum job at a major university.[1] His priority, though, was teaching and training the next generation of journalists, which meant he was beloved by his students but never rose above the rank of associate professor.
